The critical path and most expensive phase of genomic research is identifying SNPs linked to a phenotype of interest. RAD technology is a cost-effective and efficient tool for generating SNPs in your specific populations, based on your research goals.
SNP discovery using RAD technology is based on the concept of “focused resequencing”. Using our proprietary sequencing library construction process, the power of a sequencer is focused on specific subsets of a genome. RAD targets specific regions of a genome based on the properties of each restriction enzyme. A wide variety of available enzymes allows Floragenex to adjust genome coverage to meet the needs of each project.

As demonstrated in the table above, the number of SNPs that can be assayed with RAD depends on many factors; genome size and ploidy level, restriction enzyme properties, polymorphism rate, and content of the genome. Floragenex has experience with a broad range of projects, ranging from 10 to 10,000 or more SNPs in diploid and polyploid species.
